Abstract

Purpose: In order to improve the Egyptian ecosystem of SMEs and entrepreneurs while providing useful information for policy makers, the research attempts to provide a comprehensive understanding of how institutional support affects the entrepreneurial orientation of SMEs in Egypt, especially those working in the services sector.
Design/ Methodology/ Approach: It is a descriptive cross-sectional research, which examines the relationship between variables at one point of time using the deductive approach. The research adopts a mixed-method research approach, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques. It uses an online structured questionnaire to capture a snapshot of the relationship between institutional support and entrepreneurial orientation among SMEs in the services sector in Egypt. It received 120 valid responses. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for statistical analysis to test intricate correlations between variables.
Findings: The findings demonstrated that Institutional Support exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on all three dimensions of Entrepreneurial Orientation. Specifically, institutional support exhibited the strongest effect on Proactiveness, followed by Innovativeness, and then Risk-taking. These findings suggest that improving governmental and institutional support mechanisms can play an important role in fostering entrepreneurial orientation and enhancing the strategic capabilities of service SMEs operating in Egypt.
Originality/ Value: this research will help in filling both a population and a knowledge gap in literature. It lays the groundwork for future research regarding the impact of institutional support on the three dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation separately in developing and emerging countries, notably Egypt.
Paper Type: Research Paper.
