Artificial Intelligence: Our Smartest Tool or Our Dumbest Decision?

Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly progressed from a computational innovation to a global force reshaping economic systems, social dynamics, and decision-making processes. This study investigates whether AI should be considered humanity’s smartest technological tool or one of its most consequential mistakes. Through a comprehensive analytical review of recent literature (2020–2025), ethical debates, and global case studies, the research evaluates AI’s dual nature—its transformative potential and its emerging risks. Findings reveal that while AI enhances efficiency, predictive accuracy, and problem-solving capabilities, it simultaneously introduces challenges related to bias, misinformation, privacy violations, autonomy loss, and societal dependency. The study concludes that AI’s future impact depends on the development of robust, transparent, and human-centered governance frameworks. Recommendations are offered to guide policymakers, researchers, and institutions toward responsible and sustainable AI deployment
